Award Categories
Each year at the Westpac Halberg Awards, Halberg Trust presents awards in the following categories:
 
Westpac Emerging Talent Award
The Westpac Emerging Talent Award is designed to identify and reward potential Olympic and World Champions.  The award aims to identify and assist a young athlete in their quest to become a future Olympic or World Champion and, hopefully, one day win the Westpac Halberg Award.
 
The Lion Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lion Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to an individual who over their lifetime has given outstanding service to sport as either an administrator or coach, at local and/or national level.
 
SPARC Leadership Award – selected by SPARC
The SPARC New Zealand Leadership Award is given annually by SPARC to one outstanding sportsperson whose service to sport inspires New Zealanders with a vision, shows integrity and provides leadership which is effective, focused and inspiring.
 
Coach of the Year
The New Zealand Coach of the Year is awarded to the coach whose level of achievement represented excellence in sport at the highest level.
 
Westpac Team of the Year
The Westpac New Zealand Team of the Year is awarded to the sports team whose level of achievement represented excellence in sport at the highest level.
 
Halberg Trust Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
The Halberg Trust Disabled Sportsperson of the Year is awarded to the disabled sportsperson or team whose level of achievement represented excellence in sport at the highest level.
 
Westpac Sportswoman of the Year
The Westpac New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year is awarded to the sportswoman whose level of achievement represented excellence in sport at the highest level.
 
Westpac Sportsman of the Year
The Westpac New Zealand Sportsman of the Year is awarded to the sportsman whose level of achievement represented excellence in sport at the highest level.
 
New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment, brought to you by High Performance Sport New Zealand
New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment is determined by the New Zealand public who vote for the most exciting, remarkable or compelling sporting moment, game or series involving New Zealand sporting teams and/or individuals, both at home and abroad.
 
Westpac Halberg Award
The “supreme” Halberg Award winner is selected from the winners of the Team, Disabled Sportsperson, Sportswoman and Sportsman categories and is awarded to the athlete or team whose level of achievement represented excellence in sport at the highest level.
