Sporting Opportunities For Disabled

Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme
The Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity Programme is committed to ensuring disabled people can participate in inclusive sport and physical recreation within their community.

The Programme is delivered by Sport Opportunity Advisers who work within Regional Sports Trusts located throughout New Zealand.

The Programme was started in June 2000 to enable disabled people to participate with their peers in an inclusive environment as they develop within a sporting or recreational pathway.

Halberg Trust Activity Fund
The main goal is to support activities that are regular, ongoing, build skills and confidence and to remove barriers for physical recreation and sport. The Activity Fund helps more disabled people, to be more active, more often.

The Activity Fund is available to support the additional costs associated with having a disability, that is the cost over and above what a non-disabled child or their parents would be reasonably expected to pay. An application can be made to support physical activities like lessons or equipment.

To apply for the Activity Fund contact your nearest Regional Sports Trust or contact your local Sport Opportunity Adviser who will provide you with an application form, application process and criteria.

Halberg Trust SportAccess
Ensuring disabled people can access inclusive sport and physical recreation.

The Halberg Trust has developed the Halberg Trust SportAccess, which is a quality assurance mark to identify and enhance inclusive opportunities within regular sports clubs, facilities and programmes.

Inclusion occurs in an environment where barriers are removed and all people feel welcome and comfortable to participate. This includes the way people are treated, the types of activities that are available and the way those activities are offered.

The Halberg Trust SportAccess Award - Gold, Silver or Bronze will be awarded to clubs and facilities that have a proven commitment to include disabled people within the club, facility and programmes.

If you are interested in SportAcess contact your nearest Regional Sports Trust or contact your local Sport Opportunity Adviser who will provide you with more information.
A big thanks to all our sponsors
